Low T: What Does Decreased Libido Mean?

Well, there you go. That’s it…right? No, not really. Let’s explore the deeper meaning of libido, or “sex drive”.

frustrated_coupleThere is no shortage of men who think about sex, or remember that they enjoy sex. There are, however, a large number of men suffering from Low T who have experienced a decline in that very natural and biologically necessary compulsion toward intimacy.

We are not talking about lustful, lascivious, licentious, or lewd behavior and thought. Improving your libido isn’t about getting your “swagger” or “mojo” back as much as it is simply giving you back what has been taken from you.

LIBIDO AND YOUR SIGNIFICANT OTHER

So many times I have heard stories about how wives or significant others of Low T patients have become suspicious of infidelity because of the associated decreased interest in sex. If hypogonadism (low testosterone) has negatively impacted your libido to this extreme, let me assure you that this is not normal. It is not “just part of getting older”.

Having a decreased interest in sex does not mean that you have stopped liking sex. It means that a normal frequency of sexual thoughts and an adequate level of desire for intimacy has been diminished. This deficit can potentially destroy relationships.

HEALTHY LIBIDO VS. SEXUAL PREOCCUPATION

It is common and good for men to learn to responsibly and maturely manage this desire. Having a healthy libido does not mean that you are predisposed to making bad decisions.

On the contrary, a significant or total lack of appropriate sex drive is a vital component of a healthy adult relationship between you and your partner. A healthy libido should not be overpowering and distracting, it is a normal hallmark of masculinity.

DECREASED LIBIDO AND ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION

Furthermore, diminished libido because of Low T can have a profound effect on erectile dysfunction. Aside from organic issues such as vascular problems or chemical inhibition such as a drug side effect, there are also psychological contributors to gaining and maintaining erections.

If the physical capability to gain penile erection is in tact, to achieve said erection there is still a requirement of the mental stimulus needed to initiate the mechanical response. That mental stimulus is both neurological and psychological. Testosterone deficiency can limit the emotional desire and primitive drive that is an integral part of the “life instinct” mentioned in the definition above.

While even the most severe cases of Low T do not induce an aversion to sex or even a loss of casual desire for sex, decreased libido means more than that. If you have lost the driving inclination toward intimacy, and more importantly if it is negatively affecting your relationships, testosterone replacement therapy may be exactly what you need.

Libidinous changes are very specifically linked to testosterone changes. Do not overlook this symptom. Moreover, do not mislabel this symptom. Think about what it means to you and your quality of life. If you feel that Low T may be robbing you of your sex drive, Contact Us today to schedule your one-on-one, FREE consultation.
