LOW T RESOURCES
The Low Testosterone Therapy process we follow at Testosterone Centers of Texas was born out of our dedication to two primary philosophies:
- Each patient deserves our best effort every time we see them
- Because we recognize that the practice of medicine is a disciplined art, we must always strive to build our knowledge base, learn new things, and perpetually refine our approach.
With those tenets in mind, we have developed an attentive but streamlined process to serve you.
You deserve the best, and we will always put forth effort to achieve that.
From the first call or walk-in appointment, we commit to answering every single question that you have about low testosterone therapy.
We take very seriously the trust you put in us, and we will treat you and your personal information accordingly.
A Multi-Step, Fast Paced Process to Ensure The Highest Level of Certainty Before Beginning Low Testosterone Therapy
Although everyone’s road to treatment will look a little different, here is a general outline of how the process works:
- Attend your free consultation
- Get blood drawn for your 1st lab test (new patient labs must be before 10am)
- Discuss your lab results on your 1st follow-up and set up 2nd lab
- Get blood drawn for your 2nd lab (new patient labs must be before 10am)
- Discuss your lab results on your 2nd follow-up and discuss treatment decision. After two qualifying lab results have been documented, therapy can then be initiated.
Our process for low testosterone therapy has multiple steps for a reason—we want to make absolutely sure you do not get misdiagnosed.
Unlike some other clinics, we are more concerned with your safety and your overall health than our bottom line.
That’s why we are dedicated to making absolutely sure you get the highest level of care possible. New patient labs are sent to a 3rd party reference laboratory for verification of results.
This process is consistent with guidelines put forth by The Endocrine Society for low testosterone therapy.
Two sets of lab tests, done on different days, are required to confirm the diagnosis of Low T. The cost of the two sets is $200, and the associated consultation is free.
Our testing methods conform to the most rigorous standards for the qualifying of low testosterone therapy.
On your first visit, our team of medical professionals will obtain a detailed history from you and answer whatever questions you may have about low testosterone therapy.
If you decide to have your blood drawn at that time, we will schedule your free consultation at a time before 10am, a standardized timing for quality testosterone testing.
Our Process for Determining Your Testosterone Levels
We use metrics established by the Endocrine Society to determine if your testosterone levels indicate the presence of hypogonadism (Low T).
For men, if your total level of testosterone is below 300 ng/dl, or your free testosterone is below 9.0 ng/dl, you may be suffering from Low T. We test at different levels for women, but women go through the same process as men for treatment.
If you appear to have hypogonadism (Low T) and choose to proceed with therapy, the next step will be selecting the FDA approved method of testosterone replacement that is right for you.
Your treatment plan will be tailored to your unique needs.
While we recognize that patients respond most favorably to injection therapy, some patients are not candidates for traditional low testosterone therapy and may benefit from topical (AndroGel, Testim, Axiron, Fortesta) or hCG therapy.
For testosterone by injection, the most effective regimens are in-clinic injections of testosterone cypionate administered every 7 days.
While testosterone is not yet indicated for use in women by the glacial bureaucracy of the FDA, we still administer testosterone to women based on the large amount of clinical evidence indicating the benefits of low testosterone therapy for some women.
Women can expect the exact same high level of care as men.
Your overall health is important to us AND your time is important to us too. Once therapy is initiated, we will use periodic lab testing to ensure that we not only keep you at optimum levels, but that we also minimize and/or eliminate any side effects.
When done the right way, for the right reasons, and on the right candidate, low testosterone therapy is safe, effective, and can even be life changing.
