Experiencing Semaglutide’s Potential: My Personal Transformation

Hi, everyone. I’m Augie Galindo, a partner and Physician Associate at Testosterone Centers of Texas. I’ve been blogging a lot lately on semaglutide and its potential for weight loss, and I’d like to share the reasons why.

First, as a provider working in the field of testosterone and hormone replacement therapies, one of the biggest causes of hormone imbalance I see is people carrying too much weight. Excess fat tissue causes all sorts of problems with the human endocrine system, from diabetes to low testosterone. Therefore, anything that will help my patients to get their weight under control safely is an ally in our efforts to restore their hormone balance and improve their quality of life.

Research indicates semaglutide can deliver such benefits.

The second reason for my sharing so much on semaglutide is my personal experience—the results I, myself, have seen in using semaglutide for weight loss. Despite my extensive experience in healthcare, I also found myself confronting the familiar challenge of shedding excess weight, just like so many others.

Driven by a blend of scientific curiosity, a genuine desire to understand the treatments I prescribe, and my personal health goals, I made the decision to explore the potential for weight loss and weight control through semaglutide.

Rather than approaching this treatment as an academic expert, I wanted to intimately understand the impact it could have, both on myself and on those under my care.

Semaglutide: What I Experienced

Over time, the effects of semaglutide became unmistakable. I watched as over 50 pounds melted away, accompanied by very manageable side effects. What surprised me most was the maintenance of my muscle mass—a crucial aspect for me because of my love for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Semaglutide also silenced the incessant “food noise” that had long plagued me when I’ve experimented with traditional weight loss efforts. This allowed me to focus more fully on my work, relationships, and personal well-being. It was a profound shift—one that brought newfound clarity and peace to my life, and one that has allowed me to harness this time to rebuild habits and repair my overall relationship with food.

Moreover, semaglutide empowered me to successfully utilize intermittent fasting methods—a practice I had long been curious about but struggled to implement effectively. With its support, I successfully condensed my eating window, leading to greater metabolic efficiency and a renewed sense of vitality.

My Semaglutide Experience: The Bottom Line

I am really happy with my choice to experience firsthand the transformative power and benefits of semaglutide. It not only helped me achieve my personal weight loss goals but also enriched my understanding of the challenges and potential benefits that lay ahead for my patients.

I encourage you to read more about semaglutide in my recent blog post

I have been on the fence about this drug. I have heart disease and overweight. I am also currently on TRT. I do strength training and walk 5 times a week and have lowered my food portions with very little results. My concern is the side effects of this medication and have been told once you stop it, all the weight comes back.

    • Hello John,

I understand the trepidation. I waited a long while after learning about the drug to try it myself. I took the “low and slow” approach, no getting to maximum dosing until I had been on semaglutide for almost 6 months. The side effects are certainly there, but they are manageable, if you are not trying to lose as much weight as possible, as fast as possible. To me, the most valuable aspect of the treatment is that you get the opportunity to retrain your brain and alter your relationship with food. Most will regain some weight after cessation, but you can reduce that with purposeful behavior modification. Also, Wegovy (semaglutide) has been FDA approved to “Reduce Risk of Serious Heart Problems Specifically in Adults with Obesity”(https://www.fda.gov/news-events/press-announcements/fda-approves-first-treatment-reduce-risk-serious-heart-problems-specifically-adults-obesity-or).

Thank you for responding to my concerns. I am very interested in trying this treatment, but I live in Midland, Texas. I have a primary care physician who could probably prescribe it to me. Would you recommend going to him or is there a specific type of physician I should consult instead? Thank you, John

        • No problem! I was a fireman/medic in Midland for 6 years and grew up in Odessa. Whomever you choose to prescribe your care, should have a proven track record of managing potential pitfalls well. There are certainly many PCPs that have done their homework on managing these meds, some have not. I will email you directly, in case you have any further questions.

          Best regards,
